As someone show has worked on literally hundreds of pitches to clients, I’ve heard my fair share of the question “How do we make a video go viral?”. And every single one of my answers has been “you can’t”.
Now, it looks like an advertising agency called “Unruly Media” is about to prove me wrong. They have opened a lab and have been making the claim that they can precisely predict what elements will make a brand’s video go viral.
Unruly claims it will take you far past the best practices that we all know will help a video get shared (make it funny, make it unusual and it never hurts to show a little skin) and give you an exact formula for success.
As the Forbes article points out, because Unruly is selling an idea that most marketing professionals won’t take seriously, their agency is almost an advertisement for itself.
What do you think? I don’t believe it but, although I really (really) like being right, I wouldn’t mind being proven wrong on this one.
