President Obama’s recent budget cuts for NASA programs, on the surface, don’t seem like a good thing. But, actually, they could be a boon for research universities throughout the country.
He has been urging Congress in recent weeks to spend less of NASA’s budget on human spaceflight projects and, instead, move toward financing commercial
ventures and other missions that would have direct implications on furthering scientific discoveries.
If this happens, of course, research universities are in a prime position to capitalize on any advancements. Grants can be won, new centers and facilities can be built, new faculty can be hired…the ripple effects could be enormous.
It all depends, of course, on how Congress decides to act. More manned space flights? Or more scientific advancement for mankind?
