How to be happier

Share

Admit it – every one of us wants more. There is always something else we are aspiring to – from whiter teeth to a higher paying job – the search never ends.

But now, we can be a bit wiser about it. Human beings often equate a higher number with greater happiness. For example, a higher salary will make you happier at work. Or, a more expensive bottle of wine will give you more satisfaction.

However, a new study shows quantitative data which proves that’s not the case.

Read the full report here, but the most important point is:

So next time you are buying a lottery ticket because of the amount it is paying out, or choosing wine by looking at the price, or comparing jobs
by looking at the salaries, you might do well to remember to think hard
about how much the bet, wine, or job will really promote your
happiness, rather than simply relying on the numbers to do the
comparison. Money doesn’t buy you happiness, and part of the reason for
that might be that money itself distracts us from what we really enjoy.

Be happier! Don’t let money be the only determinant when making decisions about your happiness. You’ve heard the phrase ‘less is more’ – now, go try it out.
