Is It Better to Work for a Large or Small Company?

Share

From @lifehacker (via my good friend @tortes) comes this article about whether it is better to work for a large company or a small business.

Spoiler alert: there isn’t any one absolute answer. However, there are several factors you can consider to find out what’s better for you and your work style.

Large companies will have a more formal structure of support and offer better benefits. However, they tend to be slower to implement new ideas and you are less likely to be noticed.

Working for a small company comes with a higher degree of risk. There will be less structure so you will need to be more self-reliant. However, your successes will be more visible and you will be able to move faster and try out new ideas.

Basically, the answer just depends on how comfortable you are accepting the risk and relying on yourself to succeed.

I’ve personally moved from working in large corporations into a fairly small company, so I’ve seen the advantages of both. I’ve found that, as I have more experience under my belt, I vastly prefer to control my own destiny and be responsible for my own successes.
