Recently, Purdue University unveiled a new slogan for their marketing campaign, “Makers, All“. As a bit of background, the school is known as the “Purdue Boilermakers” so “Makers, All” is a twist on that name while allowing for the expansion of the “Maker” idea. The thought process behind the new slogan is that students at Purdue can be Difference Makers, History Makers…you get the idea…
However, this new campaign has caused some debate especially among Alumni. They have started a Facebook page to express their displeasure with the slogan, saying it’s “dumb” and “too much like Maker’s Mark”.
I really like the slogan! I think the backlash is normal – any time something near and dear is changed, it’s going to cause some emotional reactions. What do you guys think?
