How many times have you heard “Colleges and universities only teach in the classroom. The real learning happens in real life.”
Well, how about both?

When temperatures soared over the past few weeks here in New York City, The Salvation Army turned to software developed by college students to monitor how many people came and left their cooling stations, and hoe much water was left.

This emergency-management software program monitored 19 cooling stations throughout the city. It allowed relief workers to monitor water levels and call for more when supplies were low. Also, it allowed the workers to monitor the arrival of the relief trucks in real-time…and all through any laptop, cell phone or any internet-enabled device.

Real college students…taking the learning outside the classroom into real life. Cool, right?
